Description
Oak, Southern Red 1-0 (Quercus falcata)
Zone 6-9
Full sun
Southern red oak is a relatively fast-growing oak and reaches a mature size of 70 to 80 feet in height and 3 to 4 feet in diameter. It is prevalent on dry, upland sites in warmer climates. As with many other oaks, the acorns provide an abundant food source for wildlife during the fall months. The wood is very strong and coarse-grained making it useful for making furniture or burning for firewood.
