Prized for its fragrant flowers, showy conelike fruit, and smooth gray bark, Sweet Bay Magnolia can be grown as a slender tree or as a multi-stemmed shrub. It grows 30 to 50 feet tall and tolerates wet conditions. Lovely, lemon-scented flowers appear mid-spring and bloom intermittently throughout the summer, followed in the fall by showy cone=like fruit. When mature it can reach heights between 12 and 30 feet. Wildlife love the Sweetbay Magnolia. Songbirds love the berries and enjoy taking a break amongst the branches.
