Oak, Black 2-0
Zone 3-9 ☼
Black oak reaches a mature size of 50 to 80 feet in height and 1 to 2½ feet in diameter. It is commonly found in dry woods and along ridges, but grows best on rich, well-drained soils. The wood is hard, heavy, strong, coarsegrained and red-brown with a thin outer edge of paler sapwood. It is used for flooring, furniture, interior finish, fence posts and railroad ties. The acorns are a valuable food source for wildlife.
